Today we were “Ugandans for a day” and it was quite wonderful.
We headed off right at 9:00. Our first stop was Kansanga Market for supplies: veggies, meat, cooking utensils. We must have been quite a sight following dutifully along after Andrew while he bargained for the best prices.
Then we were off to the village of Mityana to spend the day with Prossy, one of Erika’s mamas and her family. Erika sponsored Prossy to enable her to establish a piggery which has prospered and has made Prossy self sufficient and successful. She currently has four pigs who noisily enjoyed all the extra treats they got today.
Everyone helped in preparing a special Ugandan dinner of matooke, Gnut sauce, pumpkin, cabbage, sweet potato and chicken stew, all cooked outdoors in the traditional way. This was an all afternoon affair. The meal was delicious and everyone enjoyed working with Prossy and her family. We left feeling we’d made new friends.
